Sharapova will be hungry for a slam as she has yet to grab a grand slam title this year. Sharapova is seeded number 14 in the tournament and her ranking stands at 17 in the WTA rankings. On the other hand Groth is ranked at number 60 among the WTA rankings

Sharapova's win/loss record for this year stands at 29/8. Groth has as win/loss record of 38/17 this year. Sharapova and Groth have played each other once before and Sharapova leads 1-0 as far as the head-to-head tally is concerned. The last time they met was at Los Angeles in 2009 where Sharapova won easily in two sets

Sharapova has obtained all the flow of game she wanted and is all set to take on the US Open head on. Sharapova will be looking forward to win this title in order to improve her rankings. At the same time Groth will have to raise the bar and try something different to catch the Russian former world number one off gaurd and get her under pressure. Both the players would bring in a lot of beautifully crafted rallies with the help of their aggressive strokeplay in today's match
