World No.3 Novak Djokovic made a bad start to the 2010 season and suffered consecutive losses that finally ended in Dubai for a few moments of relief. The onset of European claycourt season brought more disappointment for the Serbian who failed to reach the finals of even a single tournament he entered.
Djokovic's nightmare continued on American soil as he struggled with bad form. Although with a few wins under his belt, the Serbian maintained his status as the world's third best player. In New York, he came up with some impressive wins over in-form players like Mardy Fish and Philipp Petzschner.
His opponent, Gael Monfils is in astonishing form too. The Frenchman took out compatriot Richard Gasquet in straight sets to give a testimonial of his good form. Monfils' win over Andy Roddick's conquerer Janko Tipsarevic also produced some nail-biting tennis.
Both Djokovic and Monfils contested the final of the Paris Masters in November last year which helped the Serb raise to as high as No.2 in the singles rankings with a win. Djokovic otherwise leads the head-to-head 4-0.
TennisEarth.com's Pick - Djokovic in four sets.
