2010 US Open Quarterfinal Match Preview - Federer vs. Soderling
Roger Federer and Robin Soderling have developed a habit of meeting each other at the various stages in almost every other Grand Slam. Will this time bring an opportunity of score settlement for Federer? Read on to find out...!

Roger Federer is in the Quarterfinals of the 2010 US Open and is all set to meet a familiar face on the other side of the court, the man who beat him in the pair's last meeting in Roland Garros - Robin Soderling.

A mere look at head-to-head confirms that there is no match between the two players. Where Federer, on one hand, has won 12 of the duo's 13 encounters, it's Soderling on the other hand, who has humbled his opponent in French Open this year, thereby handing the Swiss maestro his first ever defeat before a semifinal in a major event since 2004 Wimbledon.

Federer is most definitely a better player of the two on hard courts. There is no comparison whatsoever in terms of number of triumphs on hard courts as well. The defining factor actually is the current form of both players. Federer has suffered some bad losses this year including early exits in Indian Wells and Miami. The Swiss star lost the final of Toronto Masters to Andy Murray, although he did manage to lay his hands on the winner's trophy in Cincinnati once again, thereby re-affirming the fans' faith in him.

Soderling is no less in terms of performance, especially during the first half of the season. The Swede won the ATP World Tour 500 title in Rotterdam, and followed up with more success with runner up finishes in Barcelona, Bastad and Paris at the French Open. Soderling tested Federer to limits in the previous encounter at US Open quarterfinals last year, which is a testimonial of his fine play and ability to rise to the occasion on fast paced courts of New York.

TennisEarth.com's Pick - Federer in five sets.
