16 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who is seeded second at the 2010 US Open, is in action on Day One against Argentine Brian Dabul. Federer has only managed to enjoy success on hardcourts this year. After his major triumph in Melbourne, Federer completely fell apart during the Spring hardcourt and European claycourt seasons. The flop show continued with a disappointing exit from the Swiss' favourite Wimbledon. However, with a title triumph in Cincinnati, where he claimed the trophy last year as well, Federer announced his return to winner's circle.
Federer not only won the title, he also settled scores with some of the players who tested him earlier this year. After his score settlement with Tomas Berdych in Toronto, who beat him in Miami and Wimbledon, Federer humbled Marcos Baghdatis, his conquerer in Indian Wells in March.
His opponent today is the little known Argentine, Brian Dabul. Ranked No.96 in the world, Dabul's best performance has come in the challenger circuit with three titles and a final finish. Dabul also reached the third round in Indian Wells after claiming wins over players like Gilles Simon.
A mere look at the contest between the two suggests that there isn't any match really as far as the stature is concerned. Form, however is definitely something which NO ONE can predict. Federer is a sure shot winner, and that too in three sets. Although, Dabul can definitely push the former World No.1 to limits, and who knows, he might join the league of Alejandro Falla and Ilia Bozoljac, who put the Swiss star in trouble at Wimbledon.
TennisEarth's Pick - Roger Federer in three comfortable sets.
