World Number One Rafael Nadal is fast attaining top form in New York's hard courts with every match passing. Nadal, who has not been able to make the finals in his seven previous attempts, is gunning to better his semifinal finish from last year. Nadal has given some notable results on fast paced hard courts in his elusive career. Nadal has three masters series crowns on the mentioned surface in Madrid (previously played post US Open on hard courts) and Canada (2). He also claimed the Beijing Olympics title in 2008 on the same fast paced surface which is proof enough of his calibre to go all the way in the season's last slam at Flushing Meadows.
His opponent in today's pre-quarterfinal is countryman Feliciano Lopez, who scored a win over the Mallorcan at Queen's Club this year. Lopez is considered one of the most gifted players in the circuit by the virtue of his relentless shotmaking and court coverage. In his previous matches at the Open this year, Lopez came through some interesting matches, especially the one against little known Frenchman Benoit Paire, whom he defeated in five gruelling sets.
Both players have met 7 times before with Nadal leading the way 5-2. Lopez, who won the pair's last meeting in London is definitely going to give the top seed a tough time in today's match.
TennisEarth.com's Pick - Nadal in four sets, FOR SURE....!
