World No.3 Serbian Novak Djokovic has been plagued with bad form since the start of the year with only one title this season in Dubai. Almost all of Djokovic's wins this year have been hard earned, and there is no account of the disappointing losses the Serb suffered, including back-to-back losses to lower ranked players. Djokovic's opening round tussle with compatriot Viktor Troicki saw the former make a comeback from the brink of defeat. Although, one finds it imperative to ask why a player of Djokovic's calibre is managing wins, instead of WINNING them. Is it a result of a changed match strategy brought by coach Marian Wajda, or his own strugle with fitness and injuries. He faces a stiff challenge in his match today against German Philipp Petzschner, who held a formidable lead against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon before succumbing to defeat in five gruelling sets.
Petzschner is quite capable of 'pulling a Tipsarevic', the other Serbian in the draw who caused a major upset by shocking Roddick last night. Petzschner's shotmaking abilities are no secret, the best of which was witnessed by the tennis fraternity during the fortnight at Wimbledon. Petzschner's strong game from the back and at the net makes him such a strong opponent in today's match.
This is a first meeting between both players.
TennisEarth.com's Pick - Petzschner in four closely fought sets.
