Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark takes on the Russian powerhouse Maria Sharapova in the US Open in the tie of the fourth round at Flushing Meadows. By any means, this is one match; every tennis fan must be looking forward to. Both players thoroughly dominated their earlier matches and emerged victorious in straight sets.
Wozniacki has been in sterling form of late, as the Dane has conceded just three games in her three matches of the tournament. Wozniacki made it to the final of the US Open last year and it has been a smooth sailing for her so far, but now she meets Maria Sharapova, who has been looking in her typical form and the Russian would take this opportunity to make a startling comeback in the women’s tennis.
Sharapova leads Wozniacki in their head-to-head records with 2-0, winning both of their previous meetings in straight sets. The interesting fact is that they haven't played each other since 2008.
When asked about the contest Wozniacki said, "I've been feeling good out there. It says something about how the level I've been playing. It's nice. There are periods where you feel you're playing great and you feel like the court is bigger, the balls are bigger. You see everything clearly. At the moment I'm happy to be out there."
On the other hand, Sharapova asserted, "Caroline can run all day and make you hit tons of balls. She changes the pace really well and gets her opponents off-balance. She does many things well. That's why she's at the top of the game right now."
