The first French Open was played in 1891 at the Staide de France and ever since it moved to a new venue, Roland Garros in Paris, the event became popular as Tournoi de Roland-Garros and internationally, the French Open. In 1925 the French Championships opened to international players. In 1968, the French Open became the first Grand Slam open to both amateurs and professional players. Bjorn Borg holds the record of most French Open title wins, whereas in women's competition, Chris Evert tops the all-time leader list with 7 triumphs.
