Serena Williams  Wins - World No.1 Serena Williams was in magnificent touch today and showed no mercy at all to her younger compatriot throughout the match. Townsend tried hard, but was unable to live with the kind of pressure that the World No 1 applied to her. The defending champion hammered 16 winners, and was largely assisted by the 20 unforced errors that Townsend committed in the contest during the night.

Venus Williams

In what was the 25th meeting between two of the greatest players of the modern game - Serena Williams and Venus Williams, it was the elder sister Venus who eventually got the better of the defending champion in their semifinal encounter here at the Rogers Cup in Montreal as she fought back from a set down to achieve a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 win on Saturday afternoon. The former World No.1 who has struggled with health problems in the last few seasons rolled back the years as she produced a near perfect display of her trademark booming serves out wide, her powerful and accurate forehands and occasional exquisite volleys to end the 14 match winning streak of the 17-time Grand Slam champion in Canada.

The stats speak for themselves and the statistics clearly indicated that Venus was a lot better in all the departments of the game as she hammered 23 winners and committed only 20 unforced errors, whereas Serena made as many as 32 unforced errors and served 9 double faults as well to make the job of her big sister a lot easier than expected.
