Andy Murray

In what was a fascinating contest between the two gladiators of the sport, it was Novak Djokovic who topped Andy Murray in their quarterfinal encounter inside Arthur Ashe at the National Tennis Center here in New York on Thursday morning. The two swapped the first two sets in tiebreakers as both of them matched each other shot for shot. In fact, the grueling rallies of 22, 27 and 29 shots became the norm until Murray's level dropped considerably especially in the third set. Djokovic was waiting for that opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands as he secured that set in only 36 minutes with twin breaks of serve. In the fourth set as well he grabbed the early lead before closing out a terrific win in three hours and 32 minutes.

Andy Murray

Former World No.5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga backed up his big upset of the top seed and the overwhelming favorite Novak Djokovic on Thursday with yet another huge win over two-time former Grand Slam champion Andy Murray as he rallied from 3-0 down in the final set to accomplish just his second victory over the Super Scot here in Toronto on Friday. The French No.2 looked down and out and seemed to have run out of ideas after he had dropped the last 8 points of the second set, but somehow got the spark back in his play to reel off six of the last seven games of the match to advance into the semis of the tournament in two hours and 18 minutes.
