Straight sets demolition! Thats the news from the Centre as Roger Federer overwhelms Andy Murray 6-2 7-6 (8) to end Murray's hopes of defending his title and booking a berth in the finals of the Western-Southern Financial Group Masters here in Cincinnati.
Federer registered his first victory over Andy Murray since the US Open last year and boy, what a way to do so!
The first set was a total wrecker by the world number one but Murray decided to return to form in the next and gave Federer a run for his money, although the Swiss looked pretty comfortable.
The second set went into tie breaks and after a long tussle, Federer won 10 games to Murray's 8, courtesy a double fault by the Scot, and thus the second set 7-6.

Federer led 4-2 at the change of ends. He should have led 5-1 but a rusty forehand down the line by Federer sails long.
Murray rallies from behind to get to 6-5 with an ace bringing Fed back on serve who smashes two big serves to get to match point for the first time. But Murray had something else in mind - an Ace. Fed then hits one over the baseline after a long rally to gift Murray the second set point at 7-8 taking back the serve.
Murray hits one beyond the sidelines and then an ace from the Swiss armour follows to make it 9-8.
Murray then committed a double fault to gift Roger Federer a place in the semi finals.

Federer's second round match at Wimbledon against Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez witnessed the Swiss' brilliance from all corners of the court.
Federer also posts another very strong service hold giving Murray a taste of his own medicine as he too holds the serve with an ace. also finishing with an ace.

Murray gets a volley past Federer in style to take the proceedings further. A backhand passing shot down the line and an ace down the centre of the court helps him hold to 15.

Federer starts off well with a smashing serve. Then commits a double fault to gift the Scot a point. A stunning backhand follows and its 30-15. Ace to take himself to one point from game. Murray smashes a cross court backhand long and Federer goes ahead 5-4. Is this going into the tie breakers? Murray to serve to stay in the set.

Murray scampers a 30-0 lead as Federer makes it Deuce with his flawless technique. However, two powerful serves go unreturned and Murray continues to hold in the second set.

Murray gave a major boost to his contendorship for 2009 Wimbledon with a title win in Queen's Club at the Aegon International tennis tournament, where he edged past American James Blake to lift the title. Although his gallant efforts was cut short in the semifinals by a resurgent Andy Roddick.
Federer moves Murray around the court before foxing him with a drop shot at 15-0. A huge unreturnable serve follows and its 40-0 in no time. Murray then pushes one beyond the baseline to make it 4-3 in the Swiss' favour.

Murray loses initiative after going up 30-0 as the genius of Federer moves him around the court and produces two gem of shots, one forehand past Murray and the other a smash that bounces over the Scot's head. However, he comes up with a superb across court forehand followed by an unreturnable serve!
