Melanie Oudin, the success story of the US Open 2009, continues her dream run at the Flushing Meadows to enter her first quarter-finals of a Grand Slam with a 1-6 7-6(3) 6-3 win over Nadia Petrova, her third Russian victim in a row, in a marathon 2 hours and 27 minutes encounter.
The American's fairytale continues as she rallies from being one set down in the first to hold her nerves and composure and win the next two in a match where the momentum swung with every passing second on the clock.
Petrova was ferocious in the first set routing Oudin 6-1 to indicate her dream run at the US Open was almost over. But the American had different plans up her sleeve and bounced back, as she has done in the recent past, to win the next two sets and wrap up the match with tears in the her eyes and her supporters too!
Though the Russian smashed 28 winners, Petrova committed 59 unforced errors to Melanie's 32 but fired 10 aces that gave her imporatnat chances, but only to be missed, courtesy Oudin's fiery competitive game.
Oudin will have another Russian dinner tonight and maybe after quarters too, for she will meet the winner of the match between Caroline Wozniacki and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

After her gutsy upsets of two Russians, Elena Dementieva and Sharapova, 17-year-old Oudin finds herself in a strange predicament: that of defeating another Russian, Nadia Petrova. She will be carrying the weight of a nation on her shoulders. She is definitely expected to do well.
Petrova is serving better than her Russian counterparts so holding serve will be the key for the tennager. She is quicker around the court too. More or less, on current form, both the players are evenly matched.
