Dementieva served confidently with flowing aces. Dementieva played the strokes with awesome confidence and smacked the return of serves to break almost all the service games in the match. Dementieva breezed past the first set at 6-0. Shvedova managed to break one of the Russian's serve in the second serve but then could not do much as Dementieva stormed ahead to take the match in two straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to march in to the pre-quarter finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open
