So after quite a struggle for a first round match, Serena Williams, a winner here in Wimbledon in 2002-03, wins her opener against Portuguese qualifier Nueza Silva 6-1, 7-5. Rusty starts to Grand Slam events in not new to Williams, but with injuries plaguing her throughout the year, this one is a concern, but overall, a spirited performance from the American.

Serena started the year in style,winning the Australian Open as the 10th Grand Slam title of her career. However, ever since she has been struggling with her form. Today's win was just a reminder of the struggle that the former world number one has had so far this season
