Gulbis fired 30 aces and 62 winners to cause the biggest upset the day, beating the sixth seed and former finalist. With the big serves booming from both ends, it was best to decide this match in three tie break sets. Berdych managed saving 3 match points but failed to save the fourth one after hitting a forehand in the net. Gulbis proved again that he is capable of causing some really major upsets when he gets going and causes serious threat to the big guns.
