In what seemed as a follow up of his win against World number one Nadal in the beginning of the match, Robin Soderling dug deep to reach the maiden Grand Slam final of his career at the 2009 French Open with an emphatic victory over Chilean Fernando Gonzalez.With a win, Soderling becomes the first Swede after Thomas Johansson at the 2002 Australian Open, to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Thomsson turned out to be the eventual champion. Although the last Swede to make it to the French Open final was Magnus Norman, who lost to a resurgent Gustavo Kuerten back in 2000.
