Whew! What a match. It was never clear, till the last point as to who would win the quarters encounter between Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The match swayed from one side of the court to another keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats. Finally, Tsonga, the Frenchman ended Federer's stay at the Rogers Cup with a 7-6 1-6 7-6 victory in the first and third set tie breakers.

The first set went into tie breakers which Tsonga won after much struggle. In the second set, it seemed like Federer was going to absolutely tear apart the Frenchman and it happened so. The Swiss won the second set 6-1.

In the third set, Federer was 5-1 up when Tsonga rallied from behind to win 4 games on the trot breaking Federer and holding his serve to take the match into tie breakers again. It was Tsonga all over as Federer fell and Tsonga became the second player after Andy Murray to enter the semi finals of the Rogers Cup here in Montreal.

Federer bites the dust in tie breaker with a rare double fault !!! Tsonga hands Federer his first defeat in 22 matches

Goodness..Gracious..Tsonga..One cant really understand what exactly is happening here. From 5-1 up, Federer has gone down 5-6 in the final set of the quartefinal encounter.

Whats happening? Break after break by Tsonga.. How will Federer respond? 

A couple of games in a row for the Frenchman. What awaits Federer next, the semi final berth or an upset at the hands  of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga?

Finally Tsonga gets a chance from the merciless Federer to earn a game in the third set, that too after 4 games that Fedex won.

Another love service game by the Swiss. Exceptional rally from behind after losing the first set 7-6 on tie breakers.

Federer faced his first real challenge in Wimbledon when German Philipp Kohlschreiber took a set from him a particularly dominant tie-break. Although his quick damage control in the fourth set to close out the match made Federer see this as an emphatic win.

Like this, Roger Federer is well on course to the semi final stage of the Rogers Cup here in Montreal. What dramatic change have we witnessed! Phenomenal display of talent by the Swiss.  Long live King Federer.

During French Open, Federer was literally tested to limits by Tommy Haas in the pre-quarterfinals and Jose Acasuso in the second round. With so much of struggle in the early rounds, the Swiss star's win in the final over Soderling came as a relief.

We can see Tsonga with his physical trainers and there seems to be something wrong with his shoulders. Hopefully there is nothing serious and we get the full match with full throttle entertainment.

What gruelling action in the first set! Fantastic. Frenchman Tsonga has proven to be a huge nemesis for Federer as he wins the first set 7-6. Whats in store in the next set is to be seen.

The set to be decided by Tie Breakers

Terrific Tsonga saves three break points to go up 5-4. It looks like the match will head to a tie breaker. Federer had his chances but he could not capitalize and all credit goes to Tsonga.

Federer's most satisfying performance before the triumph at French Open was the win in the final of Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, where he tamed the Lion in his den.

Super stuff on the court. No breaks yet and both the players are holding to love service game on many occassions. Wonder what is making them serve so well..! One of them need to break now.

Federer looked methodical in his semifinal win against Tommy Haas, the man who tested him to limits in their previous encounter in French Open.

Its 'Fabulous Friday' The battle is getting ferocious by the moment as we enter the last eight stage of the tournament. For the first time since the ATP Rankings were set up in 1973, we have witnessed the top eight seeds in the last eight (QF). Never ever has the arena of the game of Tennis seen such a happening. We hope it to be one of the best battles on the court as the top players lock horns in their bid to lift the prestigious trophy.

Roger Federer will take on seventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the second quarter final of the day.

No adjectives can describe his achievements in the game. He is the master, the curator of the court. Noone knows it better than this Swiss. He has faced Tsonga just once, in the 2008 ATP Masters Series Madrid, and needless to say, he emerged victorious in straight sets 6-4 6-1.

Though he struggled in his pre quarterfinal match against countrymate Stanislas Wawrinka, he won in straight sets 6-3 7-6 (5). Without any doubt and bias, Wawrinka did trouble the world number one to a certain extent but could not do enough to derail the 'Fed Express'!

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on the other hand overwhelmed countryman Gilles Simon 6-3 6-3 to make it to the top eight and set up a clash with the Numero Uno, Roger Federer.
