An exchange of lightning bolt strokes took place in the match as DJokovic and Federer battled it out like Gladiators in the match. Federer was the first to break serve in the final set, but then Djokovic came back with a punch to break back and lead for a while. Federer then mustered the strength to get the breaks again and went on further to win the set and the match. Federer served and followed up well as he took 73% of his first serve points and won the match in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 to proceed to the final of the Rogers Cup
