Its 'Melanie Mania' in New York as 17 year old American Melanie Oudin sends 29th seed Maria Sharapova packing from Flushing Meadows in three extremely close sets, 3-6 6-4 7-5, that lasted a marathon three hours. Rallying from behind, down one set in the first, Oudin won the next two to enter the fourth round of the tournament, but not before a few drops of tears flowed and a roar of applause erupted at the Center. Clinical display by the American, undoubtedly. Sharapova, on the other hand, dug her own grave with a dagger as she committed 21 double faults amongst other errors. Oudin had earlier upset top contender and fourth sed Elena Dementieva in the second round.
