In a dramatic match which saw some scintillating tennis and some fairly mediocre tennis as well, World No. 2 Maria Sharapova came out on top in three topsy-turvy sets. The Russian dropped the first set and was 4-0 down before she came back to take 8 games in a row and hold a 2-0 advantage in the third. That however, served as a wake-up call for the Chinese French Open champion who then came back from 4-1 down to be the first to reach Championship point in the twelfth game of set 3. The tide however turned for one final time as Sharapova saved that point and pushed the match into a tie break. After a brief rain delay as the players came out, the Russian picked up from where she left and won the match 4-6,6-4,7-6(5).
