The champion, Victoria Azarenka is called upon the stage for the trophy presentation. Azarenka congratulates Sharapova for a fabulous run and appreciates her superb play. Finally she thanks her box, her coach, her fitness trainer and her manager. Azarenka extends her congratulations to all the ball kids and support staff at Melbourne Park. The runner up, Maria Sharapova moves to the stage and receives the silverware. Sharapova thanks crowd and  her coaching team for pushing her to limits every time. She also promises to come back to Melbourne again in 2013. 

Steve Healy, President of Tennis Australia, addresses the players and fans on the commencement of the Finale. After thanking the sponsors, Healy consoles Maria Sharapova and then appreciates her effort of reaching the final here for another time. Healy then congratulates Victoria Azarenka for her victory.

Third seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka overpowered former World No. 1 and 2008 Aussie Open Champion Maria Sharapova to win her first grand slam title. Azarenka lost first two games of the  match and it looked that she might lose it to occasional pressure of being in the first time in grand slam title but contrary to that she bounced back strongly and start bombarding  Sharapova with heavy ground-strokes. She stepped on the accelerator in the second set and brushed aside  Sharapova to win  Australian Open 2012.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic survives a thriller against   last year finalist Andy Murray and advances into the final of Australian Open 2012. It was a match that had loads of twists and turn and could have gone in anybody's favour. Murray upped his chances to win the encounter after he won the third set but went off the boil in the fourth set and allowed Djokovic to sneak his way back in the match.   Djokovic, who was struggling with his movement in the previous sets, regrouped himself and turned the tide in his favour.
